In keeping with the gold rush days (when tens of thousands
of people were camped in fourmile canyon) and in keeping with the party lore
surrounding our house (aka "Flamingo Beach"), we are celebrating Milos'
birthday and the summer solstice with
Flamingo Beach 2006: Go for gold!Sorry for the confusion, but this is not in town. Our place is about 13 miles from the center of town, in the scenic and tranquil 4 mile canyon. Get away from the city, the pavement and the heat. Drive up the dirt road to our place and forget all that stuff. Mingle creek side with your good friends and friends you havent met yet! Give libations to the nature spirits on the solstice in a natural environment.... We have several acres that are prime for camping. So please come, have a great time and plan to stay over. Camp by the creek, camp on the hill! Bring your camping gear, tents, sleeping bags, chairs, etc. (We have about 6 extra setups on hand and several couches and balnkets for the more indoorsy folks). Bring some bbq-ables for the evening and we'll hook you up with pancakes in the morning. Looks like Sean and Lars may contribute a home brew keg. Bring whatever libations you prefer, we will have other refreshments (at least 1 keg) as well. We'll be getting started about 5pm.The LayoutBelow is the satellite picture of our place (in party mode). Note the creek, with good flow in June! We have 2 driveways. We share our upper drive way with our neighbors. Our house is the "motherlode connection", serving several local mines (there are mines everywhere up here). Grand Funk RR is the old railroad track that passes by the house with great views of the canyon and creek. Prospectors Perversity is a lil ramble-round you can take up to a couple of old mines on a nearby ridge with a view of the divide (N. Arapahoe Peak). Flamingo Beach is the site on which epic parties were held in the 90ies, according to local legend. We need a critical mass to make this one go-off! Bring your friends!
BIKE RIDE/"BIATHALON"I'm planning a 3-4 hour bike ride from the house, starting about 11 am. The loop (sketched on the map below) goes up 4mile to switzerland trail, then up to sugarloaf saddle. From there we may try to ride, but i think we'll have to walk (biathalon part), the last bit to the top of sugarloaf mountain (great views). Then we'll drop down to sugarloaf road and ride betasso before hitting the connector over to logan mill and back up to our place in 4mile. You are welcome to dip in the creek or use our shower before the evening gets underway. SO, come on! It's a good jumping off point for a sunday excursion in the indian peaks and will be a thouroghly good time.DirectionsSee the map below. From Boulder: Take Canyon west. About 2 miles west of 6th St. You'll see the turn for Fourmile Canyon on the north side (right) of the hwy. From Ned (or points west on Boulder Canyon): Go east down Boulder Canyon (if you want to go a different way, your best bet is to take sugarloaf to the saddle where you meet the bike loop. take switzerland trail (high clearence needed on this side, rough and rocky) to the east until you read 4 mile canyon dr in sunset. Google shows some other really gnarly roads on this map, dont trust them.) After you pass the red lion, I think it's your next left. Now you are on the beginning of the red line on the map below. Once you turn on 4mile canyon, on your left you'll see the Boulder Mountain Lodge, this is how you know you're in the right canyon (as if the sign wernt enough). Now, the addresses on 4mile are the mileages from the turn with canyon. That means, to get to our place, 8453, you have to go 8.45 miles up. The only confusion is the fork at about mile 5. Here you follow the sign, and keep to the left. (The road should not get burly steep.) You'll pass through the little paved strip of houses called "Wall Street". At the end of Wall Street, you'll pass the old 4mile assay office, then you'll pass the old ore tower. Just about 2 more miles to our place. Please, carpool if you can!
